With temperatures on the rise, and snow and ice seemingly nowhere in sight, it appears that winter is officially winding down. Spring is coming! This means it’s time to open up the shed, pull out those tools, and begin preparing your lawn for the growing season.
Knowing how to best prepare your lawn for spring is important. Especially when it comes to getting the upper hand on weeds, thatch, pests, and anything else that can cause harm to your landscape as the weather warms up. Here are 4 steps you can take right now to get your lawn ready for spring:
The first step you want to take in preparing your lawn for spring is a simple lawn cleanup. This includes:
The second step involves your trees and shrubs, which when taken care of provide additional beauty to your landscape! This includes:
When it comes time to mow (you usually want to wait until the grass is growing, and is at least two inches long), you’re going to want to do so early and often. If you let the grass grow too high it can damage the roots, and if you cut it too short the roots become exposed and can get damaged. As a general rule, only remove one-third of the length off the blades. Doing so will give you a healthier, greener lawn in the spring.
